Grad Step Up

• Are you an international student joining the University of Toronto’s graduate student community in the fall of 2017?
• Are you a graduate student who is new to U of T and hoping to make lasting connections with fellow grads?
• Do you have questions about navigating the expectations associated with U of T’s academic cultures?

If so, join us for the Centre for International Experience’s and the School of Graduate Studies' orientation event Grad Step Up on Thursday, August 31st!

What is Grad Step Up?

Grad Step Up is a full-day orientation event designed to connect incoming international graduate students to key communities, resources, and information. All sessions are presented through an intercultural lens.

You will have the chance to take part in sessions facilitated by U of T advisors, instructors, and student leaders. The interactive format of the sessions will provide you opportunities to ask questions and have discussions about the graduate student experience. For this reason, the number of participants is capped to ensure an intimate and relaxed learning environment.

Event Details:

• Thursday, August 31st, 2017
• Hart House (7 Hart House Circle), Toronto, ON
• 8:30am - 6:30pm
• Breakfast and lunch will be provided; an evening reception will take place at 5:30pm

The 2017 Schedule has not been finalized. In 2016, the sessions covered the following topics and may give you an idea of the programming for this year:

• Navigating Academic Culture(s) at U of T
• Maintaining Wellness in Grad School
• Networking: Finding and Building Your Community
• Writing Genres and Academic Communication
• Teaching at U of T as a Teaching Assistant
• Maintaining Supervisor Relationships
• Developing Collaborative Leadership Skills

Eligibility: All incoming international graduate students enrolled in a degree program (i.e. Masters or PhD) at the University of Toronto.

Note: If you do not fall in this category but feel that you would benefit from attending as a member of the U of T graduate student community, please get in touch with the event organizers.

Registration:

Space for Grad Step Up is limited; please register at your earliest convenience if you plan to attend.

If the event fills to capacity, students can place their name on a wait list and will be notified if tickets become available.
